Patriot Box Office Alpine: Android Based Media Streamer

Patriot's Box Office helped the memory company diversify and now it's giving Android a try with the PBO Alpine. Patriot showed me a very early concept of the Alpine running Android 2.2. The experience obviously needs a lot of work but the promise is an affordable Android based media streamer that allows you to run Android apps.

There's no market support of course since this isn't an official Google TV deployment, but you could always sideload. Given that this is a concept there's still the chance that Patriot could take the Alpine in a more Google TV-like route when Google makes the source available. Patriot had no additional information on the Alpine so forgive the lack of SoC details. Preview of Windows OS based tablet coming next week?

We've learned an awful lot about a Windows tablet OS this past five months, with stirrings of a 2012 launch and now the rumor mill has been set in motion with word of an impending preview expected next week. According to Bloomberg, three sources have confirmed Microsoft's plan to flaunt the much-anticipated UI, possibly at upcoming appearances at AllThingsD and Computex. The showcase is supposedly set to run the touchscreen-enabled software on a Tegra-equipped machine. We'd previously reported on stirrings of a June demo. Considering all the evidence that's stacked up over the past few months, we'd say 2012 is looking like a rather practical target.

Nehalem based Xeons on last day of March

Official launch on March 30th

Intel will officially launch the Nehalem generation of Xeons on the very last day of March. While it will show itself in Intel’s pricelist on March 28th, the official launch and availability is planned for the last day in Q1.

The new Xeon will also get a new logo, which is slightly different then the existing one, with a different colour scheme. We are not sure that many customers will be ready to swap their Penryn based servers for Nehalem based ones, mainly due to cost related issues, but we are quite sure that Nehalem based Xeons should end up much faster than Penryn 45nm based Xeons.
